Exporting

All this work isn't any good if you can't get it the results out of GCrafter. So we support multiple formats to work with where you need to take your design next.

App Exports

  • Carbide Create - Exports Intelligently named layers, tabs, and starter toolpaths.
  • MillMage - Exports Intelligently named layers, tabs, and starter toolpaths.
  • LightBurn - Exports Intelligently named layers, tabs, and starter cutpaths.

For both Carbide Create and Millmage, the starter toolpaths require you to select the bit you actually own, and set the machine that you are using. Both of these will affect the cut speed for your project. The toolpaths should already be set to profile / contour with the correct "side" of in / out / along already set. The bit diameter will be set, you just need to choose the tool (eg 1/4" Compression bit from IDC Woodcraft)

For Lightburn, the toolpath speeds are calculated with a base 20watt, diode laser. If you have a 60watt C02, you'll obviously want to make some changes. In any case, based on your own test cuts, adjust kerf and speed accordingly.

What about applications like Vectric VCarve? We've created a pretty robust SVG Export, whereby every operation (profile, pocket) has it's own layer. Contained within those layers are only those parts that apply to the operation. Layer names contain both the diameter of the bit, and the depth of the cut. If you create a library of toolpath templates for your standard operations, this should make the process of creating toolpaths go much quicker.

2D Exports

  • SVG - Good for both CAM and importing into other CAD / Layout tools for final fit and finish
  • DXF - Same as above, but well, you know, DXF
  • PDF - Super helpful if you need to print your design. Pro Tip: If your output is huge, download Adobe Acrobat reader and use the "Print Tiling" option. Print multple sheets and then tape them back together
  • Image - Take a snapshot of the current 3D view and downloads it to your computer

When exporting SVG, PDF, or DXF, if your project spans multiple sheets, you will be asked if you'd like "Single" or "Multiple." And this is just what it sounds like. One file with all sheets, multiple files with single sheets. Vectric for example, supports multiple sheets, but not importing one file with multiple sheets. Choose what you want, and GCrafter will hook you up.

3D Exports

You may wonder why GCrafter has a 3D export options. The Models created in GCrafter are all Manifold (ie Watertight Geometry). This makes them suitable for 3D printing. Wood is expensive and plastic is cheap. Maybe you want to print a small, scale version of your final project before comtting to hundreds in plywood, to just see it. Maybe you want to bring it into another rendering program, maybe you want to sell the 3D model to owners of 3D printers. Whatever your reason GCrafter exports

  • 3MF
  • GLTF - Great for online WEB viewing
  • STL
  • OBJ
