Project Items
Positioning
Positioning sets where a project item appears in 3D space.
If your project only has one item, such as a simple box, you probably do not need to change anything here. The default position is usually fine.
Positioning becomes useful when a project contains multiple project items. For example, a simple box might later become a drawer inside a larger cabinet project. At that point, you may want to move the drawer up, forward, backward, or sideways so it appears in the correct place relative to the cabinet.
X, Y, and Z Position
Project item position uses the same 3D coordinate system as the rest of GCrafter:
- X moves the item left and right
- Y moves the item up and down
- Z moves the item forward and backward
The position is based on the center bottom of the project item.
So if you are placing a drawer inside a cabinet, you might set:
16in
to move it upward, then adjust the Z value slightly so it sits nicely in place visually.
Positioning Does Not Change the Parts
Project item positioning does not affect how the parts are computed.
It does not change:
- Part sizes
- Finger joints
- Intersections
- Material thickness
- 2D layout
- Exported part geometry
It only changes where the project item appears in the 3D view.
Think of it as arranging objects in the scene, not changing how they are built.
